Joe Bussell

As Chief Operating Officer, Joe Bussell oversees UC Alternative’s Unemployment Claims Management, Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), and Verification services. He leads the company’s client operations, systems, and service delivery to ensure continued excellence and scalable growth.

Joe joins UC Alternative after nearly 15 years with Walmart, where he most recently served as Senior Director of Employment Services. There, he led initiatives that transformed the company’s unemployment claims and tax management strategy—delivering more than $20 million in annual tax savings through process improvements and data-driven decision-making. Earlier in his career at Walmart, he held leadership roles in Ethics & Compliance and Real Estate, reflecting his broad operational and leadership experience. Joe holds a Juris Doctor and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
