Getting started as an employer is easy

Set Up

Setting up your company to use our verification service as an employer is fast and simple. To get started, we need a minimum of three years of payroll data in a format we can import into our systems. We build a historical file from that data extract and update the data every payroll cycle. We also keep current with all applicable regulations, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

Roll Out

Then we work with you to roll out the service, ensuring your team understands how to refer verification requests to UC Alternative. You can direct verifiers to our website with a link directly from yours or provide our URL during phone calls or when requests come in via email.

Validation

When a company or agency contacts us to verify employment or wages for one of your current or former employees, we conduct a one-time validation screening before granting them access. The verifier must provide certain details about their organization and confirm there is a permissible purpose for obtaining the requested data and a signed release. Our team validates the verifier’s information within 24 hours or less. An approved verifier can then access our system securely, input the employee’s name, social security number, and other identifying information, and request a verification report.

UC Alternative applies rigorous measures and advanced technology to secure all employee information accessible through our portal.

We store the data on private servers in commercial Tier 4 data centers, encrypting it at rest and in transit, and conduct regularly scheduled vulnerability tests and penetration tests of our systems. The data centers meet stringent industry standards including ISO/IEC 27001; SOC 1, 2, and 3; PCI DSS Level 1; and NIST 800-53. And since users can’t access our systems without undergoing a validation check first, we keep unauthorized users from obtaining payroll records.

Our process even builds in more layers of security at the time the approved verifier makes a request.
If the verifier inputs employee information that doesn’t match our records, they can’t proceed further. We also review every verification request before releasing the data, unlike apps that automatically issue reports.

Who is UC Alternative?
UC Alternative has been serving employers for three decades, providing unemployment claims processing and management services, and a variety of services that help organizations. Our verification service is the most recent addition, launched in 2023 to provide unaltered, expedient employment and income verifications and wage audits for employers and employees.
What types of verifications can a verifier request?
UC Alternative offers three different types of verifications: employment verifications, employment and income verifications, and wage audits. Property managers often verify employment and income before approving an application for a lease. Mortgage lenders, auto finance companies, and financial institutions routinely verify applicants’ employment and income. Many companies verify previous employment as part of their pre-employment screening process. And government agencies often request verifications for child support enforcement and government benefit determination.
What types of entities are considered commercial verifiers?
Typically, a commercial verifier is an employer, financial institution, property manager, school, or auto dealership that has authorization and a permissible purpose to verify an individual’s employment and/or income.
What types of entities are considered government agency verifiers?
Government agencies that verify employment and/or income can include public assistance agencies, social services and child support agencies, the Social Security Administration, work programs, and other assistance-related programs. Government agencies can also perform wage audits through our verification service.
Is there a fee to obtain employment and/or income verifications?
Commercial verifiers pay a fee to obtain verifications, and the fee varies depending on whether they’re requesting employment information only or employment and income information. There is no fee for government agency verifiers, except when requesting the information as part of a pre-employment screening for a new hire. In that case, the government agency would need to register as a commercial verifier and pay the associated fee.
Why should a verifier create an account with UC Alternative?
Becoming an approved verifier is beneficial to government agencies and commercial companies that routinely verify wages and employment. Once we’ve conducted the one-time validation screening and approved you as a verifier, you can access verifications instantly.
How can our organization become an approved verifier?
Before you can begin to use our service as a verifier, UC Alternative will require you to complete a one-time validation screening. We’ll ask you to submit certain information about your organization and demonstrate that you have a permissible purpose to obtain employment or income verification. Upon receipt of the required information, we can validate your organization within 24 hours or less.
Why should an individual/employee create an account with UC Alternative?
As an employee, you’ll find the UC Alternative verification services portal useful in several ways. You can see if a verifier has requested information about you, lock or unlock your data, and dispute errors. I just registered as a verifier. Why can’t I verify information yet?
UC Alternative conducts a one-time validation of each new verifier before approving the account application. Once you’ve been validated and your account is approved, you can request future verifications immediately.
Will I receive a receipt of payment?
If you were required to pay for the verification service, you’ll receive a receipt by email.
Can I view a sample verification report?
Once you become an approved verifier, you can request a sample verification report.
Can I access benefit information in the verification report?
Yes, you can obtain benefit information in the verification report if the employer provided that information to UC Alternative. Our reports can include benefits information such as health and dental insurance and benefits paid through payroll deduction. We provide comprehensive reporting information for government agencies, so they don’t need to make additional requests of the employer.
